Nomadica Brand Review
Arc'teryx has been quoted for saying "if you wish to support products that are made with organic and/or renewable materials we may not be the right choice for you." They take a different approach to sustainability, one that ensures maximum durability and timeless styling with the hope that customers use their products longer. Avoiding the disposable or seasonal fashion mentality.
At Nomadica, we offer only a few Arc'teryx products - those which contain recycled or sustainable materials and are best suited for travels.
The majority of Arc'teryx products are made with materials derived from non-renewable resources. Their focus has been product performance or durability of their packs and outerwear shells.
Arc’teryx seeks to source bio-based materials such as down that are ethically produced and harvested. Their down comes from small farms in Eastern Europe. They have taken steps to ensure their down sources are certified non-force fed and non-live pluck.
Their supplier, Allied Feather and Down, uses a third party supply chain auditor, the International Down and Feather Laboratory (IDFL.com) to validate their sourcing practice claims.
Arc’teryx is one of only a few major outdoor industry outerwear brands in North America, employING more than 300 highly skilled workers in our Vancouver, Canada factory”.
They also have products assembled in eight other countries around the world - USA, China, El Salvador, Italy, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and Bangladesh. Arc’teryx continually monitors social compliance initiatives and standards including Fair Wear, SA8000, and others.
To date they have decided to focus on the continued development of their robust internal audit process rather than joining any such external initiatives, believing this is most effective and direct way to ensure safe, ethical and high quality manufacturing environments for Arc’teryx and for the workers at our facilities.
